Dr. Carol Felder is not only a top area dentist she is also a top teacher in the Fairfield County area. Years ago, Dr. Felder identified a gap between the critical needs of today’s dental hygienists with the educational offerings in the area. With the support of area dental leaders and organizations, she created the Professional Dental Assistant School to train the hygienists of tomorrow.
Trained directly by Dr. Felder in a small group setting, her students will be well prepared for their new careers in dentistry. They will learn how support a successful dental practice, partner most effectively with Dentists, improving their efficiency and making sure patients receive comfortable and quality dental care. Dentists diagnose, prevent and treat dental diseases and condition of the oral cavity. Dental Assistants help dentists during examinations and procedures. Additionally, they prepare patients for exams, take x-rays, sterilize instruments and perform office duties.
Employment of dental assistants is expected to grow by 31 percent from 2010 to 2020, much faster than an average for all occupations. Ongoing research linking oral health and general health will likely continue to increase the demand for preventive dental services. As dental practices grow, more dental assistants will be needed (Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor).
